August 25th, 2017 | Huntsville, AL – Language that Works (LTW) – LTW announces completion of the 2017 immersion programs in Costa Rica. The Study Abroad and Internship and Service Learning immersion programs were an enormous success!!! Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica was the host university where students completed 3 and 6 credit hour Spanish courses to transfer back to their home institutions. Congratulations to all students who completed this program.
The internship and service learning programs offered students the opportunity to work in various Costa Rican companies and organizations in the fields of food service, legal services, home and business security, and veterinary care and retail services. Congratulations to all for successfully completing the internship and service learning programs.
More importantly, the students made tremendous advances with their Spanish skills. After just one week, you could notice how the students became more confident while speaking Spanish with the locals. Daily life with Tico families helped students reinforce language skills and learn about the Tico culture. (Ticos is what Costa Ricans call themselves)
There were fun cultural activities. We danced salsa, merengue, and bachata. We cooked empanadas, sweet plantains, made a cabbage salad and a natural fruit drink. Yummy – we all enjoyed the food after the class.
In addition, students enjoyed a tour to the capital city of San Jose. They visited the famous National Theater, the National Museum, and spend some time shopping at El Mercado de Artesanías.
The immersion programs included excursions trips to La Fortuna and Volcan Arenal, Hacienda Pozo Azul, and Manuel Antonio National Park and beach.
All enjoyed the city of La Fortuna and Volcan Arenal. It was fun swimming in the famous thermal water mega pools at Baldi Hot Springs, and at La Fortuna Waterfalls. It was an unforgettable adventure for all!!!
The excursion to Hacienda Pozo Azul was an adventure excursion. Students enjoyed ziplining, horseback riding, and white-water rafting. Hacienda Pozo Azul was another incredible excursion!
But one of the favorite excursions was Manuel Antonio National Park and beach. Students spent some time in the rainforest with a professional tour guide where they saw sloths, monkeys, racoons, iguanas, and more. It was a lot of fun! After the tour, they hanged out at the beach. Check out all the immersion programs’ pictures posted in our Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/LanguageThatWorksLLC/
