Study Abroad and Internships in Costa Rica – June 2017
January 30, 2017 | Huntsville, AL – Language that Works (LTW ) is already planning for a great summer of study abroad and customized internships in Costa Rica. These programs are open to all university and college students seeking either an intermediate level or above Spanish course or Spanish students interested in doing an individualized internship based on their goals and objectives. Both four week programs are packed full of cultural and language immersion opportunities.
Integration and Work Experience
Language that Works’ Internship program offers students either in their junior level of Spanish coursework, or the equivalent language fluency level, the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich Spanish language and Costa Rica “Tico” (as Costa Rican call themselves) culture, while gaining valuable work experiences and skills. All worksites are preapproved and applicants are matched to a worksite based on their goals and objectives for their program that they have shared with LTW through the application process. LTW also seeks to match student interns to a preapproved Tico family who closely fits the family desired by the student. During this time, students become part of the Tico family and are incorporated into the family as one of their own. In addition to working, the Language that Works’ Internship Program package includes complete orientations, multiple excursions, weekly cultural activities, a worksite supervisor, and a LTW representative available 24/7. Please see complete details of the program on our 2017 Internship Flyer.
Academic and Interactive
LTW works closely to coordinate the course offerings that your degree program requires and partners with the nationally recognized Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica (UNA) which is located in Heredia. UNA offers Spanish courses based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) from principal (A1, A2) to advanced (C1, C2). Each course is a total of 40 hours, 10 hours each week. Courses focus on linguistic acquisition in all disciplines of reading, writing, grammar, and conversation. Students will have the opportunity to utilize UNA’s services such as access to the internet, student medical services, and library services. Each student will receive a certificate and transcript for each course enrolled in and completed. Please see complete details of the program on our 2017 Study Abroad Flyer.
Culture, Adventure, and More
Both the Internship and Study Abroad programs include weekly cultural activities to learn more about the Tico culture. Students will have fun learning to cook the national dish of pico de gallo or perhaps a new dance step or two. A variety of excursions are included in both programs which offer the students wonderful opportunities to experience all the wonder and beauty of Costa Rica. In addition to the excursions that are offered in each program, there are optional excursions for purchase. Excursion options can be viewed in our 2017 Costa Rica Optional Excursions Flyer .
